John Byrne has such a pleasing aesthetic, I felt my job was to keep things as purty as possible. I did however, play with both figures structure a bit. I will post the raw pencils shortly for a comparison.
Man... we are so used to seeing the Jim and Williams combo, that these pieces are really golden... and.. here comes the fanboy... I always have wanted to see you ink Jhon Romita Jr... I donīt know.. I think it would be an interesting experiment... Neal Adams would be another interesting one....anyways.. great stuff.
Wow! You really did a great job here, capturing Mr. Byrne's energy and structure while adding touches that the trained, fanboy eye can clearly recognize as your inks. Just what I like to see in a great penciler/inker colab.
Nothing against your run on Uncanny (which is one of my top favorites) I fell in love with comics, comic art, and Uncanny X-Men for no other reason than John Byrne and Terry Ausin. Eventually I started to read them, instead of just looking at the art. They along with Chris Claremont made me fall in love with Jean Gray-- the Phoenix Saga is what I imprinted on when I first started collecting.
This brilliant pic totally took me back, to all those good times.
I just penciled a Jean Gray pic, and I had to include the Jean from your run. Surfing past this pic just now was the cherry on the top of my cake. Thanks for sharing, Scott!
