the dark knight.... by INKIST the dark knight.... by INKIST
I always enjoy drawing (and inking) Batman. Kinda wish I had taken a grittier approach, but then I'm always fighting the urge to make stuff slick and purty. Someday I'll sack up and make an artistically risky chance. Yeah, someday...

Scott, I love the detail of the suit flexing, and the buildings I heart them. I wish a lot more artists paid more attention to backgrounds as it really makes a piece stand out...you sir did a fantastic job! So when are you gonna start penciling some issues? When you do let me know I'll be buying that book :)

Hey, Batman is Batman.. There is a good side, and a dark side.. But there is a place and time for either.. You don't want to scare the kiddies... This is great!

you are an amazing inker but this piece proves you should also give penciling a run. I'd love to see your work on a regular book.

it seems gritty in all the right places.
I, for one, admire the slick artist, because it really isn't as easy as you guys make it seem.

hey man awesome work

a little advice on scanning

if you scan in ONLY black and white, the blacks and whites will be more defined and you wont see the strokes of you brush :D
Reply
:iconinkist:
INKIST Featured By Owner Feb 3, 2010
Why would I want to do that? As an artist, I WANT to see each stroke, the density of the ink, the white out mistakes, etc. I want to see and understand the PROCESS of an artists work. Original art has a unique beauty that is lost when everything is (out of necessity) averaged out and flattened for print.

Nice job Scott! I do like the simplicity of the line work on the figure.

Next time so you have no choice but to take that looser grittier approach, go outside, find a stick, and ink with that. That will work for sure ;-).

your my favorite inker of all time, been following your career for over 20 years now. no one can ink jim, marc and whilco like u can. you inking of dale's pitt #2 cover was the best. i haven't seem anyone ink dale's art that good thereafter. your the best man, keep up the good work.

Have you ever done a book or blog on inking? What I've seen has been "less than helpful"

Thanks Chris. The drybrush stuff, and just putting the nub away in general led to some interesting discoveries. Always looking for one more weapon in my artistic and inking arsenal!

Yeah absolutely. Just another layer of texture that gives the eye some candy. You've done things with nib that I can't even fathom, so it's great to see you experiment and combine different techniques.

I'm loving the inks on the building in the background! Your draftsmanship skills are rock solid, further proof that great inkers are really great, solid artists in their own right and never "tracers" (god, I hate that term).

I love inking, mostly in B&W (suck at dem digital colors! lol) But I always find I'm either doing too much, or too little, so it's hard to get inbetween. This piece is all kinds of awesome! Can't wait to see more!

It needs to be MORE slick. Pristine, antiseptic inks are all that is good and right. And moral. Rough inks are the devil's work

Seriously tho', good stuff dude!
